Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ)
Other Questions
1. All or part of my financial aid is not on my
student account; What should I do?
Only accepted
loans, grants and scholarships are listed as estimated financial aid
on the student account. If some or part of a student's aid is not
listed, contact a financial aid counselor to determine why the
financial aid has not been credited to the account at 419.530.8700.
2. Can I use excess financial aid to
purchase books?
Yes, a student can
use excess refundable financial aid that exceeds the fees to
purchase books and supplies at the on-campus bookstore up to $800.
Students must complete a rocket card transfer form authorizing a set
amount to be placed on the rocket card (student id).
Prior to
the start of the term, the Bursar's Office will transfer the
requested amount to the rocket card provided sufficient aid is
available. The student can begin to use the funds transferred
to the rocket card one
week prior to the start of the term. The rocket card is then
used as a debit card at the time of purchase. Students can
make return purchases on any remaining monies or can request a
refund after the term begins at the Bursar's Office. To check
if funds have been transferred to the Rocket Card, simply view your
student account at Student Self Service via the UT Portal. A
detail line will show similar to "Rocket Card
Transfer.......$800.00".
3. How do I get my refund?
Refunds issued in the
student's name are
direct deposited to a savings or checking account through an ACH or electronic
transaction. Students complete a direct deposit form with the
necessary account information.
The student must be an owner of the account. The account can
be joint with another person. Funds cannot be deposited
into an account the student does not own or have access to. The direct
deposit process should be established as soon as possible, but no
later than three weeks prior to the start of the term. This is
the safest method of receiving a refund. At the present
time, parent PLUS loan funds cannot be direct deposited and are
issued in check format and mailed.
